Nicholas Payton

Nicholas Payton, DSW, MSW, M.Ed., is an Assistant Professor in the Sociology, Criminology, and Political Science department at Simpson College. He holds a doctorate in social work from the University of Kentucky, where his capstone explored the impact of anti-DEI initiatives on Black graduate students. With degrees in social work, educational leadership, and a certificate in college teaching, Nick brings deep expertise in mental health, education, and student development.

His practice background spans social work leadership, behavioral health, and higher education policy. His research focuses on social justice, education equity, child welfare, and fostering belonging for BIPOC students. A member of several service and justice-oriented organizations, Nick is committed to bridging equity gaps and advancing inclusive, transformative learning spaces. His passion lies in helping individuals and communities thrive through thoughtful leadership, scholarship, and care.
